Sammendrag

A multiplex real-time PCR assay was developed to monitor the dynamics of the Picea abies-Heterobasidion annosum pathosystem. Tissue cultures and 32-year-old trees with low or high resistance to this pathogen were used as the host material. Probes and primers were based on a laccase gene for the pathogen and a polyubiquitin gene for the host.The real-time PCR procedure was compared to an ergosterol-based quantification method in a tissue culture experiment, and there was a strong correlation product moment correlation coefficient, 0.908) between the data sets. The multiplex real-time PCR procedure had higher resolution and sensitivity during the early stages of colonization and also could be used to monitor the host.In the tissue culture experiment, host DNA was degraded more rapidly in the clone with low resistance than in the clone with high resistance. In the field experiment, the lesions elicited were not strictly proportional to the area colonized by the pathogen.Fungal colonization was more restricted and localized in the lesion in the clone with high resistance, hereas in the clone with low resistance, the fungus could be detected until the visible end of the lesion. Thus, the real-time PCR assay gives better resolution than does the traditionally used lesion length measurement when screening host clones for resistance.

Dyrkingssystem for bringebær og bjørnebær Det viktigste som har skjedd med dyrkingsopplegget de siste årene, var at oppal av skudd og selve bærproduksjonen er blitt skilt. Vi såg ingen som produserte nye skudd samtidig med at avlingen blir høstet. De såg flere fordeler med denne omleggingen av produksjonen. Les hele publikasjonen

I Holland og Belgia har produksjonsmetodene for bærproduksjon i hus endret seg betydelig de siste årene. Avlingene er blitt større, og de kan produsere bær lenger utover høsten. Viktige endringer er at produksjon av skudd og bær skjer adskilt, enten ved å produsere nye planter hvert år, eller ved å bruke et ekstra år på å få opp skudd på gamle planter. Uansett blir nye skudd fjernet under bærproduksjon. Dette fordyrer produksjonen, men samtidig blir problem med sykdom og skadedyr betydelig redusert. De har også oppnådd bedre resultat med kjølelagring av planter ved å senke temperaturen gradvis fra +2 C til -2 C gjennom hele kjøleperioden. Dette gir bedre bryting av sideskudd, og dermed mindre avlignsreduksjon ved lang kjølelagring.

Sammendrag

A small fruit growing area of southern Norway is chosen as a pilot area. This area contains four automated meteorological stations owned by The Norwegian Crop Research Institute. The measurements made at the stations are hourly recordings of precipitation, air temperature, leaf wetness and relative humidity of the air, plus some additional measurements at some stations. The area has a relatively smooth topography with hills and no mountains. The highest point is located about 300 m above the sea level, and the lowest 15 m above sea level. The remote sensing research group at The Norwegian Meteorological Institute is providing the hourly radar measurements of precipitation, from two different weather radars. All the precipitation data used is documented according to a system developed by The Norwegian Crop Research Institute, and for the growing season ahead data will be distributed to the local private extension service, but this year there will be no development of biological models serving the fruit growers (apple scab etc) using all the additional relevant data. The outcome of the use of the operational use of the data in the coming growing season, will be comparing the data from the different sources, and looking closer at the possible significance of the use of a documentation system for the data from different sources. Finally the quality of the data is discussed, as well as the possible steps to be taken for future and extended use of such data.

Areas near the Norwegian-Russian border are being strongly contaminated by heavy metal emissions from copper-nickel smelters in the Kola peninsula. The present report presents data for the four elements arsenic, chromium, cobalt, and selenium in vegetation sampled in eastern Finmark, obtained by neutron activation analysis. It is no doubt that the smelters in Nikel and Zapolyarny, constitute the main source of these elements in this area. Some chromium comes from local domestic sources. Still, however, the concentration of these elements in soil and vegetation are probably too low as such to represent any harm to the ecosystem.

The Fusarium mycotoxins deoxynivalenol (DON) and 3-acetyl-deoxynivalenol (3-acDON) were determined in grain samples from naturally infected and Fusarium culmorum inoculated plants in field experiments in Norway during 1992-1996. The mean DON content in trials with inoculated plants was 11.8 mg/g in spring oats, 11.3mg/g in winter wheat, 28.9 mg/g in spring wheat and 31.4 mg/g in spring barley. In the natural infection trials the mean DON content was 0.32 mg/g in spring oats, 0.22mg/g in winter wheat, 1.48mg/g in spring wheat and 0.54 mg/g in spring barley. Only small differences in DON content were observed among cultivars, and significant differences were found only in winter wheat in the inoculation trials, and in spring wheat in the natural infection trials. A significant correlation was observed between the 3-acDON and DON contents in the inoculated trials in all grain species, the mean ratio of 3-acDON to DON ranging from 0.011 in wheat to 0.071 in oats.

Risikoindikatormodellen Environmental Impact Quotient (EIQ) ble brukt for å beregne miljøbelastningen ved dyrking av kål og tomat hos bønder i Hanoi-området. EIQ modellen ble brukt på et datasett med 247 bønder, der bønder med opplæring i Integrert plantevern (IPV) ble sammenlignet med bønder uten opplæring. Resultatene viste at dyrking av grønnsaker i henhold til IPV- prinsipper gav store reduksjoner i miljøbelastningen beregnet ved hjelp av EIQ-modellen.
