Sammendrag

Genetic variation and pathogenicity of Phytophthora infestans isolates collected from organic potato crops of the susceptible cv. Bintje and the moderately resistant cv. Santé were assesed in France, Norway, and the United Kingdom in 2001 and in Switzerland in 2001 and 2002. Population structures differed considerably between the four P. infestans populations. Those from France, Switzerland and the UK were mainly clonal populations showing restricted levels of genetic diversity, whilst those from Norway were mixed A1 and A2 mating type populations with high levels of genetic diversity, suggesting periodical sexual reproduction. Isolates collected from cv. Bintje were on average more aggressive than or comparable to isolates from cv. Santé. Race complexity varied considerably between the regional P. infestans populations with isolates from France and Switzerland showing the highest number of virulence factors. In all pathogen samples but the French, isolates collected from cv. Santé were more complex than isolates collected from cv. Bintje. No directional selection towards increased aggressiveness towards the more resistant cultivar Santé was observed. This suggests that there is no shift towards increased level of pathogenicity in P. infestans populations following the large-scale introduction of more resistant potato varieties in organic production systems in Europe.

Økologisk mat handler om den gode måltidsopplevelsen. Det handler om nærhet til matens opprinnelse, fra bondens jord til noens spisebord. Og om naturens egne betingelser for sunn produksjon av mat. Mest av alt handler økologisk mat om mennesker, både de som lager den og de som spiser den. Måltid, årstid, nåtid! er et verktøy for økologisk mat i storkjøkken. Boka er den første i sitt slag på norsk og et resultat av flere års pionerarbeid ved St Olavs Hospital og etter hvert andre storhusholdninger.

Sammendrag

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food established in 1992 the Agricultural Environmental Monitoring Programme (AEMP) in Norway. The monitoring program is an important part of the overall strategy for sustainable development. One of the major and concrete objectives of the programme is to quantify and to document the diffuse nutrient losses from representative agricultural areas and production systems in different agro-ecological regions of Norway, and furthermore, to help generate adequate data and knowledge for policy support and for the implementation of appropriate environmental measures. The AEMP-programme also includes a component dealing with monitoring of pesticides, but this component is not described further in this paper. Bioforsk is in charge of the practical implementation of the program. This paper presents a brief description of the design and the structure of the program, various activities and routines that are applied and finally also a short summary of some major results in terms of measures nutrient losses. Similar programs as the Norwegian AEMP are established in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. These programs were established in close co-operation between Bioforsk and different research organisations in the Baltic countries. More information about the programs can be found in Vagstad et al (2001).

Om våren ser ein ofte oransje, geléaktige utvekstar, gjerne omtala som "horn", i barken på stamme og greiner av einer (Juniperus communis). Utvekstane er serleg synlege i fuktig vêr. Dei oransje utvekstane høyrer til ein rustsopp som har vertskifte mellom einer og hagtorn (Crataegus spp.).

Sammendrag

Forest stands are the basic planning units of managed forest landscapes, and the structural composition of these units is important for conservation of biodiversity. We present a methodological approach for identification and mapping of important structural and environmental features of forest stands. Based on an analysis of habitats of red-listed species and a synthesis of results from research on spatial distribution of forest species, we developed a habitat inventory approach (Complementary Hotspot Inventory, CHI) that is currently used in forestry planning in Norway. The CHI maps fine-scale hotspots for 12 habitat types that are further classified according to positions along main environmental gradients (productivity and humidity). Consisting of different substrates in different environments, these habitats to a large degree support different species assemblages. By incorporating both the hotspot and the complementary approach, the CHI produces data tuned for later conservation measures. The high spatial resolution of data facilitates the use of conservation measures at different spatial scales, from single-tree retention to forest reserves. Avalidation test of habitats identified by CHI showed that the density of red-listed species was four times that of randomly selected old forests.

Et filterbedanlegg (konstruert våtmark) er et plassbygd renseanlegg bestående av prefabrikkerte kummer og filterbasseng med tilkjørt filtermasse. Anlegget etableres i stedlige masser og består av slamavskiller, pumpekum, vertikalstrømmende biofilter med filtermasse, tett filterbasseng med tilkjørt filtermasse og utløpskum med muligheter for prøvetaking av renset avløpsvann. Filterbedanlegg krever et visst tilgjengelig areal for etablering av filterbassenget. Anleggstypen har imidlertid svært god renseevne både med hensyn til fosfor, organisk stoff og sykdomsfremkallende organismer og kan anbefales i de fleste områder.
