Optical and chemical sensor technology

When weeds have started to emerge or the weather is beneficial for fungal diseases, the farmer considers plant protection measures to avoid crop losses. If plant protection products are considered necessary, the entire field is treated uniformly.

However, there can be large intra-field variation in weediness and fungal diseases. With uniform treatment of herbicides and fungicides despite patchy populations of weeds and diseases, an unnecessary amount of these pesticides are used. To enable smart, on-demand or site-specific plant protection, sensor technologies which can reveal the pest organisms in the field is necessary.
