Fire properties of wood

Different types of wood-based materials have different resistance to fire. Low resistance to fire requires fire protection measures in the form of surface treatment or impregnation. Fire protection products used for outdoor wood products are often salt-based and require surface treatment to prevent leaching of salts.
Testing of fire protection products can be performed at NIBIO using our bench-scale system to measure material flammability based on heat release rate.
