Facilities at the Centre for Precision Agriculture

NIBIO Apelsvoll is a research center with a long tradition in research on open field and greenhouse production. We manage approximately 800 decares of agricultural land with the capability to irrigate the entire area. Each year, a large number of field trials and other experiments are conducted here on a variety of crops, using different approaches that collectively cover many research fields.
Apelsvoll's competent and experienced staff of researchers, engineers, and research technicians ensures generally good agronomy and high-quality research. The greenhouse and tunnel facilities allow for cultivation under controlled and semi-controlled conditions, significantly extending the growing season and the experiments. The Center for Precision Agriculture has several dedicated facilities that support our research in precision agriculture.
Tech Workshop
In this workshop, we work with our larger equipment and robots. The tech workshop also serves as our drone workshop, and we have a 3D printer that we use to create custom parts when needed.
Spectral Lab
In the spectral lab, we calibrate our sensors. The lab is equipped with several integrating spheres, reflectance panels, and multiple multispectral sensors.
Raman Lab
In our Raman lab, we conduct measurements with our two Raman spectrometers. In addition to the spectrometers, the lab is equipped with a robotic arm, which allows us to streamline the measurement process with automated measurements.
Tech Shed and Tech Tunnel
Adjacent to one of the plastic tunnels, we have a dedicated building to conduct tests of new cultivation methods for berries.
Photovoltaic System
One of the goals of the Center for Precision Agriculture is to actively contribute to more sustainable agriculture. For this reason, and in collaboration with the SolarFarm project, we have 351 m² of solar panels on the barn at Apelsvoll.
