NIBIO is a project driven research institute and collects approximately 400 million NOK annually in project funding from both national and international sources. A lot of activity is carried out through EU and EEA-projects and we also participate in research projects in Asia, Africa and Latin America. NIBIO coordinates several large international projects with a particular focus on food security and climate change. The list of projects is not complete.

CoffeeLand is an interdisciplinary research project aimed at advancing climate-smart land management in Ethiopia’s coffee-forest systems, which are critical for biodiversity, livelihoods, and global Arabica coffee genetic resources. These systems support millions of smallholder farmers but are increasingly threatened by climate change, land-use pressure, and declining productivity.
CoastAfrica is an international research and education partnership that strengthens collaboration between Norwegian and African institutions to monitor coastal environmental change.
Norway has pledged to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions, and one of the strategies and ultimate goal is to increase the short and long-term sequestration of organic carbon in forest soil to enhance the carbon stock of soil organic carbon in forests. Altering forest management strategies, such as extending rotation periods and clear-cutting methods, may change soil carbon storage, accumulation and loss.
