Meet Some of Our Employees and See What It's Like to Work at NIBIO.
Erik Larnøy, Researcher at the Wood Technology Department
"What I like most about working at NIBIO is seeing how ideas come to life. For example, you can work with an industry partner who has a challenge and together research a good solution. Other times, it can be exciting to see how an idea from the researchers can develop into a completely new product or solution that benefits large parts of society.
The work environment and the flexibility at NIBIO are very positive. I look forward every day to going to work to meet good colleagues and tackle very interesting tasks."
Tage Thorstensen, Researcher at the Molecular Plant Biology Department
"At NIBIO, there is a vast range of different projects related to food production and environmental research, and there is close contact between researchers and the agricultural industry, which I find very exciting. For many years, I have worked with basic research on model plants, but I find it very interesting to work with applied research on forest and food plants at NIBIO. Research on issues relevant to Norwegian forestry and agriculture provides many opportunities for innovation and business development, which is an extra motivation in the job. Additionally, I have had the opportunity to help establish research projects within CRISPR technology at NIBIO, which we have high hopes will benefit Norwegian agriculture and consumers in the future. It is rewarding to work with biotechnology research that can benefit agriculture."
Tove Vaaje-Kolstad, Head of the Agricultural Mapping Department
"I have a master's degree in what is now called Geomatics from NMBU, and I graduated in 2001. Since then, I have been employed at NIBIO and its predecessors. In my career, I have worked in many areas, initially mostly as a developer, and later primarily in project management for small and large projects, and more outward-facing activities. Now, I am the head of the department, and in addition to spending about 50% of my time leading the department, I still work on professional development projects, especially related to map visualization solutions. I also participate in collaborations and projects across NIBIO and with external partners, where I take care of the cartographic aspects.
At NIBIO, there is room for development, and throughout my career, my tasks have changed according to my wishes and NIBIO's needs, and I am constantly challenged with new tasks. We have a large geomatics environment with many smart minds, which means I still learn a lot of new things. The best part of working at NIBIO is probably that I have skilled and pleasant colleagues who contribute to a pleasant and exciting workday."
Elin Thingnæs Lid, Senior Advisor in the Research Staff
"The best part of working at NIBIO is its social mission - contributing to food security, sustainable resource management, innovation, and value creation within the value chains for food, forestry, and other bio-based industries - it motivates me greatly. I enjoy being part of an institute that fulfills its mission by delivering directly useful knowledge for society. Before NIBIO, I worked for many years with risk assessments where much of the same knowledge is used. Through the support function of the research staff, I get to experience a different perspective, assisting in the actual production of knowledge. NIBIO has an exciting and diverse professional environment with many skilled people. I am delighted to work with knowledgeable, constructive, and friendly colleagues, with a wonderful mix of productive work, humor, and fun."
