Abstract

Because Panolis flammea (Denis & Schiff.) has become an important pest of Pinus contorta in Scotland in recent years but has not as yet been recorded as a pest of this tree in the nordic countries, its distribution in Norway was investigated with pheromone traps in 1980 and 1981. The noctuid was found in 25 of 36 localities surveyed. The northern distribution was extended from Kvamme in More to Namsos in Sor-Trondelag. In southern Norway, the moth was recorded from several localities further inland than was previously known, and from several new localities along the west coast. Four other noctuids attracted by the synthetic pheromone analogue used are listed.
