DEAL - Governing under turbulence: The European Green Deal and implications for Norway
End: aug 2026
Start: aug 2023
In DEAL, we want to find out whether the comprehensive strategy, the EU's Green Deal, is causing turbulence in the political processes taking place in the EU, and possibly how. We will also see if turbulence outside the EU affects decisions around the EU's Green Deal, as well as investigate how this affects both member states and non-member states.

We will pay special attention to the implementation of the EU's Green Deal in Denmark, as a member state, and Norway, as an EEA country, and study the public governance in the countries, and its impact on democratic legitimacy. We will explore how the countries can handle the turbulence that arises.
The DEAL project will provide insight and lessons for both EU member states and non-member states. How can they handle the effects of the EU's Green Deal and the turbulence it creates? Such a comparative study has never been conducted. With the exception of a few reports, there is also no research that goes through the implications of the EU's Green Deal for Norway or Denmark. DEAL also contributes to new literature in an area that has only recently been highlighted.
