Gender-differentiated Climate-change Impacts and Adaptation in Vietnam
A study undertaken in the ClimaViet project in the southern provinces Soc Trang and Tra Vinh in Vietnam has focused on socio-economic and gender-differentiated impacts and preception of climate change among rice farmers.

Stakeholder workshop in Nam Dinh province
VAAS and Bioforsk (ClimaViet project partners) in cooperation with WINROCK, Vietnam, organized a stakeholder workshop in Nam Dinh province on the 4th of May. The main purpose was to share project results and evaluate the relevance results for scaling up in Nam Dinh province.

Field visit to Nam Dinh province in the Red River Delta
Climaviet project team including scientists from Bioforsk (Udaya Sekhar Nagothu, Trond Rafoss), University of Queensland (Andrew Borell) and VAAS, CETDAE and officials from the Nam Dinh province visited the project sites during August.

Field trip report
Interaction with stakeholders and farmers in Don Xuan commune/Tra Cu district in TraVinh Province
Scientists from the Cuu Long Delta Rice Research Institute (Dr.Hach, Dr.Chi), Bioforsk (Dr.Sekhar, Dr.Trond) and the University of Queensland (Dr. Andrew Borrell) visited Tra Cu district in TraVinh province on the 22nd of August and discussed with the Secretary of the Commune, Staff of Agricultural Station in the district, Agricultural staff of the Commune and farmers about climate change related impacts on the agriculture and rice production in the area.

First annual project review meeting successfully organized
The first annual project meeting was held at the Vietnamese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Hanoi, 19th August, 2014. The two main project partners Bioforsk and VAAS, representatives from the Royal Norwegian Embassy, MARD, DOST, scientists from various institutes in Vietnam, University of Queensland, farmers and provincial officials were present at the workshop.

President of Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences and director of the project Dr. Nguyen Van Bo visited and evaluated the project progress in Hai Hau and Nghia Hung districts in Nam Dinh Province under the supervision and monitoring of Center for Technology Development and Agricultural Extension.

Project planning meetings
Bioforsk and project partner Cuu Long Delta Rice Research Institute (CLRRI) met with stakeholders at province-, district- and commune level authorities to discuss climate change adaptation needs. Priorities at the commune level for climate change adaptation are (1) drought and (2) salinity. Due to the elevated terrain in this area, water has to be lifted by pumping in Ðôn Xuân commune.
