One of Climarice 2 team members Dr.H.Annamalai from IPRC, Hawaii, has published an article recently on the south Asian monsoons. These results are highly relevant to the Indian context, and also add to the ongoing discussions on the impacts of Climate Change on summer monsoons in the Indian sub-continent. IPRC a partner in the Climarice 2 project is also contributing to the next IPCC report on climate modeling.

Field Visit on rice field in Andhra Pradesh for direct seeding practices, 30-31 July 2012

Kharif season 2012 sowings were delayed due to the late onset of monsoon in Andra Pradesh. In many villages sowings were not initiated due to the late monsoon and lack of water supply from irrigation projects. However, farmers in the villages where Climarice II is focusig, have gone for direct seeding of rice. Farmers have noticed significant reduction in water utilization in the initial phase of crop and increase in yield of about 2 qt per acre.
