Patenting of biological inventions is now accepted by law, and the new science of biotechnology will enable inventors to benefit more from patenting. But evidently, only the largest breeders have necessary resources to invest heavily in the new and riskful science of breeding. The largest corporations are eager to protect their intellectual properties, and are likely to set up more effective IPR-schemes in future. The ramifications are discussed in form of strategic issues and dilemmas for the Atlantic Salmon-industry.
